Indulgence in a Mug: Crafting the Perfect Cup of Homemade Dark Hot Chocolate

In a world filled with instant solutions, taking the time to create a cup of homemade hot chocolate is a small but meaningful act of self-care. With a few quality ingredients and a touch of patience, you can transform a chilly evening into a cozy retreat with a mug of velvety indulgence.

Ingredients

1 1/3 cups of milk

2/3 cup of 18% cream

1 tbsp cocoa powder

1/2 tbsp of instant coffee

1/3 c chocolate (we like to use dark chocolate)

1 tsp vanilla

Step 1

Begin by heating your milk.and cream. You want it steaming, but not bubbling. Add your chocolate and cocoa, stirring gently to avoid scorching, until it transforms into a fragrant, chocolate-y liquid.

Step 2

Add in your instant coffee, vanilla, and optional sweetener if needed. Stir continuously to ensure a smooth amalgamation of ingredients. The key here is patience—allow the ingredients to meld together, creating a decadent, velvety base.

Step 3

Pour into a large mug , or split in two to share, and enjoy.

"Could it get any better!?" We're glad you asked.

Elevate your hot chocolate by upping the cream to milk ratio. Cream adds richness to the flavor, and thicker velvety texture. Just make sure you have 2 cups of liquid total. Add marshmallows. TOASTED marshmallows. We can't recommend this enough. The slight char on the outside enhances the sweetness and provides a delightful contrast to the creamy hot chocolate.
